Krozword Assistant
ver 1.10
by Alan Deala
Purpose: The Krozword Assistant is a simple utility for entering &
editing puzzles for the Krozword BBS door.
Use: Typing in KROZASST at the DOS prompt will bring up a blank screen
with a menu off to the left side. (You may also type in KROZASST
followed by the name of an already existing puzzle to load that puzzle
in for editing).
The menu off to the left has the following options:
(N)ew Puzzle - this is for starting a puzzle from scratch. The first
thing you will need to provide is a name for the puzzle. Then you
must enter the number of columns and rows the puzzle will have.
Lastly, you need to put in your name (or any name really if you will
be uploading the puzzle, Krozword will change the name to your
online name). If you currently have a puzzle loaded and you have
made changes to it, you will be warned that those changes will be
lost if you start a new puzzle without saving your current work.
(L)oad Puzzle - this is for the loading in of puzzle that has already
been made. A dialog box for choosing files will display. You may
press F1 for help, type in the file name, select a file with the
mouse or arrow keys, or type in a new file mask (i.e. PUZ*.*)
The selected puzzle will load if there are no errors. If there is an
error, KrozAsst will tell you how far into the puzzle it got before
encountering the error. You can try to look at the puzzle with a
text editor to repair the puzzle. If you currently have a puzzle loaded
and you have made changes to it, you will be warned that those changes
will be lost if you load a new puzzle without saving your current
work.
(G)rid Edit - this is for the editing of the puzzle grid. You may
enter letters into the puzzle by hitting the corresponding letter
key on your keyboard, or enter a blank/black box by hitting the
space bar. The cursor will automatically advance to the next square.
Hit the Escape (Esc) key to stop editing the grid.
(C)lue Edit - this is for the editing of the clues associated with the
words on the grid. The current word will be highlighted when you
enter clue editing mode. Use the left & right arrow keys to scroll
thru the "Across" words and use the up & down arrow keys to scroll
thru the "Down" words. If a clue already exists for the word, you
may append or edit the clue simply by typing to add letters to it or
backspacing to remove letters from it.
(S)ave - After all the work of entering a puzzle, you'll certainly
want to save it. So pick a file name to save it under (KrozAsst will
warn you if the filename is already in use). If you will be uploading
your puzzle to Krozword, you may name your puzzle anything you wish.
If you are working on puzzles locally (i.e. you are the sysop), you will
need to name the file with a prefix of "KWPUZZLE" in order for Krozword
to see it (you may have any filename extension you wish on it).
(Q)uit - Pretty obvious here... KrozAsst will warn you if you try to
exit without saving the latest changes to your puzzle.
